Delinquent Tax Returns
Unfiled tax returns rarely stay quiet. Penalties compound, refunds get lost, and the IRS may eventually file a substitute return for you — usually with a much larger balance than you actually owe. We help clients quietly get caught up, filing accurate returns and minimizing penalties.

Who this is for
- You have one or more years of returns you didn't file
- You've received a CP59 or other 'return not filed' notice
- You're self-employed and behind on Schedule C or estimated taxes
- You want to get right with the IRS before applying for a mortgage, business loan, or passport
What working with us looks like
- 1
Confirm what's actually missing
We pull your IRS transcripts so we know exactly which years and which forms the IRS is expecting — no guessing.
- 2
Reconstruct records
For older years, we help you reconstruct income and expenses using wage transcripts, bank records, and reasonable estimates the IRS will accept.
- 3
Prepare and file each return
We prepare each delinquent return accurately, in the correct order, and file them under IRS procedures that give you the best position.
- 4
Handle any resulting balance
Once caught up, we address any balance owed through an installment agreement, penalty abatement request, or other resolution option.
Frequently asked questions
How many years back do I need to file?
The IRS generally requires the last six years of returns to be considered compliant, but the right answer depends on your situation and any refunds you might still be able to claim.
Am I in criminal trouble for not filing?
For the vast majority of clients, no. Failure to file is almost always resolved civilly by filing the missing returns and addressing the balance.
What if I can't afford to pay what I owe once I file?
Filing and paying are two separate steps. We file first — that alone stops many penalties from growing — and then set up a realistic payment path.
Will I lose refunds from old years?
You generally have three years from the original due date to claim a refund. That's one reason not to delay.
